Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Why the change to SEASons of Faith?
Answer: Taking the lead from the U.S. Bishops, the parish is committed to faith formation for all ages with a focus on adults. We never stop learning and growing in our faith. This year we are concentrating on the theme of “Responding in Prayer.”
Question: What will faith formation look like this year?
Answer: We will have monthly sessions September-May that everyone is invited to, plus sacramental preparation sessions for First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation, along with Retreats. We will continue to provide Take-Home Packets along with website information and service opportunities.
Question: What are the Take-Home Packets? How do we use them?
Answer: The Take-Home Packets extend the learning from each session. We will provide monthly “magazines” and other information with something for each person in the family. We will also offer ideas for additional resources and websites. Your home study starts first with a commitment to set aside time to discuss the SEASons of Faith session, to discuss ideas from the magazines, to pray together, and a chance for each person to decide one thing he/she will do differently, better, or more this week.
Question: How important is it that we attend each session?
Answer: We are committed to faith formation that is systematic, complete, thematic and cyclic (every six years we will repeat the themes but there will always be some review of the previous year and overlapping of the content). You and your family won’t want to miss out on any of these sessions. We recognize that this new model requires planning and perhaps a change in your schedule. We encourage you to start today to make SEASons of Faith a habit in your life.
Question: Our children attend Catholic School….should be attend?
Answer: The invitation is open to everyone! We think this is a great opportunity for parents, children and youth who attend Catholic School to be connected to parish life at any grade level, but most importantly when preparing for the celebration of a sacrament.
Question: What if children want to attend and neither parent is able to bring them?
Answer: We understand this can happen with work schedules, etc. This year we are asking that each child be accompanied by an adult (grandparents, neighbors, aunts, uncles, friends) who will bring the child and then share the information and take-home kit with parents. Since we want all children and youth to participate, we can help find someone if necessary to accompany the child(ren).
Question: Why do we have guidelines or expectations for Sacramental Preparation?
Answer: The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton TEAM and the Faith Formation Committee considered the question of guidelines because we noticed that children and youth entered the sacramental preparation programs having had no prior faith formation experiences. We want to be welcoming and open to all families and children/youth, but we want everyone who celebrates the sacraments to be well prepared. Attendance at SEASons of Faith is considered to be one of the most important signs of readiness.
