The Revenue Committee has been formed to supplement the efforts of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton parish Stewardship and Finance Committees. Part of our responsibility as parishioners is committing to share your time, talent and treasure. The Revenue Committee focuses on educating and communicating the treasure portion of this commitment.

This communication effort bas been started with revising the financial corner in the bulletin. The Revenue Committee has set the following goals:

  1. Get 100% of our members engaged in the parish by increasing the number of parishioners that are in good standing contributing at least $30/month in treasure or making a talent/time commitment. The average giving of parishioners in good standing is $998 annually or $83 a month.
  2. Get 100% of our members giving to the parish consistently by increasing the number utilizing electronic funds transfer (withdrawal from a bank account) or a credit/debit card. This reduces processing cost; it is easy and saves paper.
  3. Communicate progress against our goals, the financial position of the parish and how the revenue from offerings brings value to our parish community (i .e. Posters for tracking progress against our goals will be in the gathering area of our church, continue tracking revenue/expenses in the parish bulletin, etc.)

Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

Question: In the area of stewardship of treasure, don't Catholics already give more than other religious groups in this country?

Answer: In fact, they don't. Catholic giving lags behind other religious groups. According to some studies, Catholic households contributed on average less money to the church and charities than members of all other religious groups in the United States.

CATHOLICS - $515 = 1.3%
PROTESTANTS - $842 = 2.4%
JEWS - $1,854 = 3.8%
ALL OTHER RELIGIONS - $1,075 = 2.7%
Percentages show the percent of household income given .

Question: What if I can't afford to give of my treasure?

Answer: Giving of our treasure may seem unfeasible for many faithful Catholics, especially during these trying economic times. One might ask, "How can I give when I can't even make ends meet as it is?" This is where we are invited to an understanding that stewardship also involves giving time and/or talent.

Question: What about all the people in my parish who give nothing at all?

Answer: The question is not "What about them?" It is "What about me?" While it is natural for us to compare what we do to what others do, our Christian faith calls us to consider how our actions conform to what God would have us do.

The Revenue Committee is making a special effort to reach out and bring in the parishioners that are not in good standing to step up and do their part. We are tracking the progress on improving the participation of our parishioners with the posters displayed in the gathering area.

Question: If we are struggling financially, why are we installing new carpet and re-covering the chairs?

Answer: The recent church upgrades have been funded from the "Advancing The Mission" funds from the recent Diocesan campaign. These funds were designated for capital improvements.
